About CA Foundation
CA Foundation is the new entry-level for the Chartered Accountancy course in India and Earlier it was known as the Common Proficiency Test CPT.
Eligibility
Eligibility Criteria or Qualification Required for the CA Foundation Course: The candidate can register for the CA Foundation after appearing in the 12th board examinations and take the exam after qualifying for the 12th examination.
Exemption
CA Foundation is exempt for Graduates, post-graduates, and students having equivalent degrees. Commerce graduated with 55% and others with 60% marks can take direct admission for the CA Intermediate.

Cut-off Date For Admission To CA Foundation Course
Students who want to pursue CA Foundation Courses have to register online for the course. Last Date of Registration (admission) for CA Foundation Course with ICAI for May and November Examination
- For June term examination- 1st Feb For June Attempt
- For December term examination- 30th June For Dec Attempt
Registration Fee for CA Foundation
The registration Fee for CA Foundation Course is Rs.9200 and CA Foundation course registration will be valid for three years i.e. up to six attempts. Even after three years, you can revalidate your registration for a further three years by depositing Rs 300/- as revalidation fees.

Passing Criteria
CA Foundation Examination Passing Criteria: A Student of CA foundation examination shall be declared to have passed the examination if he/she secures minimum 40% marks in each paper and an aggregate of 50% of (200/400) in total marks.
The above two papers (Paper 1 & 2) are subjective while the latter two are Paper (Paper 3 & 4) objective. Objective papers contain negative marking and for each wrong answer 0.25 mark gets deducted and for each correct answer, one mark will be given.
Declaration of Result CA Foundation
The result of CA Foundation Examination conducted in May and November will be Declared
- Declaration of Results of May Examination – Up to 19th July
- Declaration of Results of November Examination – Up to 19th January

Q1. What is the last date of CA Foundation registration?
Ans. Every year, the CA Foundation course is conducted in two sessions: December and June. The last date of registration for the June 2024 session is February 1, 2024. The registration for the December 2024 session is 1st July 2024.
Q2. Does ICAI Foundation have a negative marking?
Ans. Yes, in papers 3 & 4 for every incorrect response, ¼ of the marks will be deducted.
Q3. Is CA Foundation MCQ based?
Ans. CA Foundation examination is a written test that is conducted offline and held twice a year. There are four papers in the CA Foundation course. Out of them, Paper 1 and 2 are subjective papers, while Paper 3 and 4 are objective MCQ-based papers, which test your practical knowledge.
Q4. I am a Class XII student. Am I eligible to register for the Foundation Course?
Ans. Yes. Students after passing Class 10th examination conducted by an examining body constituted by law in India or an examination recognised by the Central Government or the State Government as equivalent thereto may provisionally register in Foundation Course of ICAI.
Q5. How many attempts are there for CA Foundation?
Ans. Once you have registered, it will be valid for three years. During this period candidates can apply for the CA Foundation June/ December examination. Candidates can apply and appear for a maximum of six attempts in three years.
